About Chris

I build things that work.

I used to be about music, design, and random creative projects.

Eventually it became websites and marketing.

Somewhere along the way, I fell into this hobby and it became a career.

…and a business.

I’m Chris.

I think marketing should be clear. And I think marketers should be responsible for what they do in the world.

Systems should help business owners breathe a little easier.

Treat your clients’ businesses like you want them to succeed.

That’s always been the goal.

How did I get here?

I didn’t start in “marketing.”

Honestly, I never thought of myself to really be any good at marketing. I used to take for granted being good at something without ever really knowing how to put it out there.

When I started this, I started designing.

I designed logos, posters, album covers, business cards — anything I could get my hands on, often for free or cheap (like a lot of people).

Then clients started asking:

“Can you make posts, too?”

“Can you make my website look nicer?”

So, I did.

And over time I’ve noticed that most people aren’t just “horrible at marketing” like I thought I was. They just don’t put anything sustained into it.

Most people need someone to provide the ideas. They need someone to own them, and run with them, while they do what they’re good at.

That’s what we do, and what led to High Level Marketing.

What High Level actually is

High Level Marketing isn’t a big agency.

We aren’t trying to be.

We’re a tight, experienced team that helps Edmonton businesses show up professionally online without handling the technical stuff themselves.

Websites. Social Media. Ongoing marketing.

Done right, consistently.

No hype. No drama.

We do the kind of marketing that still works five years from now.

How I think about marketing

After doing this for a while, you realize most problems aren’t creative problems—

—they’re process problems.

Marketing doesn’t really work when it’s all random tactics, inconsistent effort, and a lot of starting and stopping.

But it works when you focus on fundamentals:

  • A clear message
  • Clean design
  • Simple strategy
  • Consistency
  • Small improvements over time

It’s not always exciting, but it’s effective.

And would you rather be “effective” or “exciting” when your business is on the line?

Why local matters to me

I like working with people I can actually meet.

I like understanding how different Edmonton businesses operate — the seasons, slow months, busy months, and the reality of running a company here.

I learn a lot about my own business by helping others. And I think marketing works best in this kind of context.

So, instead of chasing clients everywhere, we stay focused on here.

Fewer clients than some agencies? Maybe.

But better relationships. Working together long term just feels like better work.

How I work

I’m pretty calm, honestly.

I like organized systems at work… checklists. I like things that run smoothly.

Clients sometimes tell us that we feel more like a partner than something else. Like we manage their marketing division while they do other things like sales and provide their services.

That’s intentionally how we want it to be at HLM. If we’re doing our job right, your marketing shouldn’t be a hassle. It should just work.

Outside of work

When I’m not building websites or figuring out my agency, I’m usually making music or playing video games. I don’t have that much free time anymore, but when it’s not one of those things, I do regular stuff like lift weights and fix stuff around the house.

I’ve always liked making things.

Marketing just happens to be something that stuck.

Work together

If you’re a business owner who’s past the DIY stage and just wants someone to handle the online side properly, that’s exactly what we do at High Level.

And if you ever want to talk shop, like websites, marketing, or business, I’m always happy to connect.
